Are You a Real Jewish Mother?
Despite what you may think, you do not need to be Jewish to be a Jewish mother. Nor do you need to be a parent. Being a Jewish mother means carrying yourself with a certain attitude that is not necessarily confrontational, but always assertive.
But, before you can officially call yourself a Jewish mother, here is our test:
- Do you ever give up, stop arguing or accept no for an answer?
- Do you have to know every single thing about every single thing?
- Are you always right? The corollary to this: Are you ever wrong?
- Have you ever been asked to talk a little louder? (The correct answer for this would be no.) How about a little softer? (There we go.) Can your cell phone calls be heard in the next county?
- Do you start your sentences by saying, “This is what you have to do”?
- Are you or have you produced a lawyer, doctor or investment banker? No? Not yet . . . What about a dentist or an accountant?

Excerpt from the book:
Do you have to be Jewish to embrace the secrets of a Jewish mother? OF COURSE NOT! There are plenty of similar sterotypes about Italian mamas and Greek and Russian and Latina ones too. And the reality is that most of what we share in this book is the universal truth about the importance of tradition, the art of motivation, the sanctity of family, the essence of friendship. One thing we do want to stress is that we have made lots of mistakes in life, and continue to do so. Perfect, we are not, whatever that is.
